IRS Definition of "Alternative Fuels"

Check out IRS Form f8911 which is an ALTERNATIVE FUEL STATION CREDIT

There are more details to look into but I wanted to start out on it. Alex and Anthony not sure if this is you guys yet or not or if it's worth it.

Alternative fuel. The following are alternative fuels.
• Any fuel at least 85 percent of the volume of which consists of one or more
of the following: ethanol, natural gas, compressed natural gas, liquefied
natural gas, liquefied petroleum gas, or hydrogen.
• Any mixture which consists of two or more of the following: biodiesel (as
defined in section 40A(d)(1)), diesel fuel (as defined in section 4083(a)(3)), or
kerosene, and at least 20% of the volume of which consists of biodiesel
determined without regard to any kerosene in such mixture.
• Electricity.

IRS Definitions of "Alternative Vehicles"

an fyi:

"Alternative Motor Vehicle

An alternative motor vehicle is a vehicle with at least four wheels that qualifies as one of the following types of vehicles.
Advanced lean burn technology vehicle. This is a new vehicle with an internal combustion engine that incorporates direct injection, is designed to operate primarily using more air than is necessary for complete combustion of the fuel, and that meets certain additional requirements.

Qualified hybrid vehicle. This is a new vehicle that draws propulsion energy from onboard sources of stored energy that are both an internal combustion or heat engine using consumable fuel and a rechargeable energy storage system, and that meets certain additional requirements.

Qualified alternative fuel vehicle. This is a new or converted vehicle fueled solely by compressed natural gas, liquefied natural gas, liquefied petroleum gas, hydrogen, any liquid that is at least 85 percent methanol, or a mixture of one of these fuels and a petroleum-based fuel, and that meets certain additional requirements.

Qualified fuel cell vehicle. This is a new vehicle propelled by power derived from one or more cells that convert chemical energy directly into electricity by combining oxygen with hydrogen fuel, and that meets certain additional requirements.

Qualified plug-in electric drive motor vehicle. This is a vehicle converted to be propelled to a significant extent by an electric motor that draws electricity from certain batteries capable of being recharged from an external source of electricity, and that meets certain additional requirements.

Certification and other requirements. Generally, you can rely on the manufacturer's (or, in the case of a foreign manufacturer, its domestic distributor's) certification that a specific make, model, and model year vehicle qualifies for the credit and the amount of the credit for which it qualifies. Veggie Oil Powered Car Caravan Through Honolulu for Earth Day

Aloha,

And thanks for another wildly successful Lono Grease Summit! For those of you who didn't make it, our Summit consisted of 14 people and a total of 9 earth-friendly machines (mostly SVO cars, a couple bio-diesels and newbies). I think, if my numbers are correct, everyone who came to the March Summit came to the April Summit, plus one! I love that! Anywho, our 9 cars caravanned around Honolulu starting from Kakaako Point Panic Beach Park, headed East on Ala Moana, onto Kalakaua through Waikiki, around Diamond Head, took a quick pit stop at Triangle Park, continued through Kahala, then onto the Kalanianaole until we reached Kokohead District Park where we picniced. We definitely turned some heads, got some numbers, and despite getting split up several times due to our long long train, were able to stir up some curiosity. Not sure about everyone else, but I got a huge kick out of looking in my rearview mirror and seeing a line of old mercedes greasers behind me, and smelling the ones in front of me! I love that we got out and rallied, and I hope we can do some other drives in the future...

I've got to do some work on the blog, so check it out soon when I've added some pics (and video?) from this last Summit, and also hopefully add everyone in the "member" tab at some point (with permission of course). But in the meantime, sadly, I'lll be out of town for the the next two meetings. However, a fellow greaser will be emailing everyone with the next meeting date, time, and details. Bye for now, and keep on trucking - like the stickers said "I wouldn't be driving if it wasn't on grease". Thanks!

Our next grease summit is going to be great, a friendly convoy around Honolulu with some stops along the way. We will hold the Earth Day Grease Convoy on Saturday, April 23rd, the day after Earth Day so more people can attend. Details to come... but save the date!

Aloha All,
Check out some pictures from our March Summit...

First SVO Summit, Massive Success

Aloha Everyone, and once again thanks for making the first SVO Summit a massive success. I was thrilled with the turnout and felt like we really came together to celebrate and share our passion for alternative energy and direct involvement in the luxury of transport.

For those of you who missed the Summit, or are visiting the site as a newbie, here is the rundown: myself and my boyfriend, Derek, both current veggie car owners, have had a hankering to get together others like us to meet one another in a formal SVO setting. We invited everyone we knew on the Island that owned, or was interested in owning, a greasecar, and those people extended that invitation to others in the community. We ended up with a solid little group of 13 people and 9 greasecars that came from miles around. I am willing to bet that if we were not a group that is in part dedicated to being self-reliantly mobile, we would have had half the turnout because of the unearthly price of diesel gas. Now, defining the concepts and basics of a "greasecar", SVO, or the luxury of transport? That will have to be done on another day or on your own time on wikipedia. To get started for now, I'd like to share some pictures and faces from our meeting on Saturday...
